Pesach 2022
Dear All,
Please note the following important information for the coming days:
Sale of Chametz
If you would like me to sell your chametz, please hand in (only if you can't hand in should you email) your form by Tuesday night April 12th.
Search for Chametz
The search for chametz by candle (or flashlight) takes place Thursday night April 14th after 8:23 pm. The blessing to be recited before the search, as well as the declaration ("bittul") that is to be made after the search, is printed in the haggadah (and in the Artscroll siddur on p.654). More info here
The Chametz is burned the following morning (Friday) and then the second "bittul" declaration is made (before 12:17 pm).
Friday, April 15th is the "fast of the firstborn." Those firstborn who partake in a siyum (a festive meal upon the completion of a Tractate or the like) need not fast. We will have a siyum after services on Friday morning. Services 7:15 am. Siyum at 7:55 am.
Key Times for Friday April 15th
7:15 am - Shacharit followed by siyum
11:12 am - Latest time to eat Chametz on Friday
12:17 pm - Latest time to burn Chametz and recite second declaration
Midday 1:21 pm - (laundry, shaving, etc.).
7:30 pm - Candle lighting
7:30 pm - Mincha/Maariv

Milk
Other than chalov yisrael milk, there is no regular milk available with Kosher for Passover certification here in Houston. One should therefore purchase milk (with no additives other than vitamin D) before pesach for the entire holiday.
[The reason the milk should be purchased before pesach is because the laws of nullification are more lenient at that time. (There is a concern for chametz in the vitamins, and therefore the nullification for that must take place before the onset of the holiday. Hence the requirement to buy before Pesach for all of pesach).]
On behalf of Chayi and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very healthy and happy Passover - Chag Kasher V'sameach!
